The Loneliest Road
This is the 400 mile / 9 hour drive from Yosemite National Park to Great Basin National Park, via Tioga Pass, US-6, and most famously Highway 50. This drive takes me through the heart of America's Great Basin. The Great Basin is a region full of mountain ranges and flat valleys. Here, water cannot empty into the oceans, so the water collects in salt lakes or marshes. As the water evaporates in the desert climate, more and more salt is left behind.
